Have you guys seen the ads for this on the subway?
I finally decided to check it out today and to my dismay, it’s not a weird viral marketing website for something like Burger King or a movie. While the concept of “finding the new black” is an interesting enough concept as is, why does this website exist? (And apparently, black is the new black. I did all the research for you already.) It’s fun mixing and matching and trying to make a gross outfit and seeing the woman’s reaction but, why?
With all the possible combinations and effort put in to dress this woman up so she can repeatedly say “NOW LET’S SEE IF YOUR BLACK IS THE NEW BLACK!” it makes me wonder why this website was made. It doesn’t advertise anything or promote anything. The woman is kind of cute and it may help give some women ideas on outfits to try out but outside of that, there’s no larger goal. Why waste money and time making this site and advertising on the subways? Am I missing something here? Maybe there is a deeper viral marketing thing I’m missing. If you know, let me find out!
If you missed Google’s April Fool’s joke, at least you can listen to the stupidly hilarious MP3 that played on the page.
